Sometimes You Need A David & Goliath Mentality

Being the first week of a new year, I’ve attempted to stick to my new schedule – and I must admit, I’ve done quite well! It’s been a real ‘David & Goliath’ week for both me – and my cats!

After a rather slow start, my week of ‘to do’s’ has gradually become a lovely shade of orange, with a hint of yellow. Anyone who knows me will know, I can be quite OCD at times – especially when it comes to organisation – highlighters. My highlighter of choice is usually yellow (yes, I have several ‘back-up’ ones for ‘just in case’), but as I’ve already highlighted certain things in my Filofax in yellow, I needed an orange one to compliment it. It took me a couple of days, but I finally ended up buying a multi-pack of different colours – just to get an orange one – but hey, it shows how determined I can be!

So, what has this got to do with David & Goliath?

I have so much I want to achieve this year , that by breaking it down into smaller chunks and planning my time, I don’t have to get overwhelmed by looking at these ‘giant’ or ‘grand’ plans. It’s quite often the little things that  you complete that will accumulate and grow into bigger achievements. I’ve not been put off by the rather large task in front of me. It’s like the saying ‘how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.’

Funnily enough, our cat Fizz, demonstrated another version of the David & Goliath mentality the other day.  Bear (our German Shepherd) was having a stand-off upstairs (the cats territory) with our other cat Badger. Badger, is a bit of a wimp, but he was attempting to stand his ground by batting Bear in the face – but Bear just got noisier, growling and barking, forcing Badger back – until he thought he’d won when Badger jumped onto my daughters bed.

Fizz was already curled up on the bed but had witnessed what had happened. As Bear turned to walk away towards the stairs (with my help!), Fizz jumped off the bed and followed him. If she was human she’d have been rolling up her sleeves – you could see she’d had enough of Bear and Badgers regular stand-offs. She started batting Bear through the banister as he worked his way down the stairs. He sat on the stairs barking and growling but she just kept on going. I had to drag him downstairs – but that wasn’t enough for Fizz.

She then attempted to follow us downstairs to carry on with the fight! There was no way she was backing down. In the end, my daughter had to hold back a rather peed-off cat, the size of Bears head, who was totally ready to teach him a lesson in bullying! Needless to say – she is still ‘top dog’ in our house!
